Chipping of green Waste
Chipping is to strategise the potential of composting as a method to beneficiate organic waste, to help divert organics from landfill disposal. Composting is a proven method of organic waste minimisation, and various local and international practices have demonstrated the effectiveness of composting organic waste which in turn reduces the amount of waste requiring landfill and the generation of landfill gas.
Due to the high percentage contribution of green waste to the total general waste generated in South Africa (i.e. up to 24% by mass1), the potential for composting in South Africa is significant and thus was investigated as a diversion alternative.
Mulching continues to gain traction in the South African forestry industry as growers around the country are realising that the high cost of the operation is more than justified by the many benefits that it brings. But choosing the right equipment is key ….
