FLEET MANAGER

Job description

Waste Carriers has an exciting opportunity for a Fleet Manager, this position reports to the Operations Manager and will be based at our offices in Airport Industria, Cape Town.

Job Purpose:

To manage the fleet by ensuring inspections, maintenance and repairs are done timeously and efficiently as well as to minimise negligence, incidents and damages thereby ensuring productivity, efficiency, and operational profitability.

Duties & responsibilities:

· Continually focuses on achieving market base profitability through effective management of all fleet activities, including cost control, efficient routing, driver time management, employee development, and high training and safety standards.

· Ensure safe and reliable vehicles are available to meet operational requirements.

· Manage and coordinate depot operations departments following standard company processes, policies, and procedures.

· Ensure consistent operational efficiencies and control operational costs across the department.

· Identify and mitigate risk within the operations process and procedures by managing the flow of information between the Logistics Controllers and the Drivers.

· Increase the business profitability within the responsible service areas.

· Excellent industrial labour background/experience and the ability to navigate around the HR and IR environment of the business.

· Excellent business acumen and understanding of financial indicators that have an impact on the operations and business at large.

· Develop staff to meet the needs of the department and to ensure all team members receive annual appraisals and that development opportunities are supported.

· Build & maintain effective relationships with key external stakeholders, ensuring a good reputation for the business remains intact.

· Able to interpret reports, and manipulate data into meaningful information to make sound business decisions.

· Liaise with the appropriate authorities on a regular basis to proactively deal with potential problems impacting the department’s fleet and profitability.

· Continuously improve current systems, policies, and standard operating procedures.

· Ensuring compliance with all legislation and regulations related to the collection and disposal of waste.

  • Ensure that all vehicles are licensed & roadworthy and maintained according to requirements.
  • Optimize the utilisation of all vehicles through proper planning, scheduling, controlling and maintenance of vehicles.
  • Ensure that insurance claim documentation is completed and submitted timeously.
  • Ensure that shift and duty rosters are in place and working and that all employees comply with statutory working hours and with the Company’s leave and sick leave policies and standards
  • Maintain a neat, clean, tidy, safe and healthy work area and comply with environmental and occupational health and safety standards and legal requirements, such as ensuring that all safety appointments are done, safety meetings are held, registers are maintained, safety inspections take place and accidents, and incidents are investigated
  • Manage costs in line with budgets e.g. employment cost, fuel consumption, labour broker/casual costs, vehicle repair & maintenance, rental, fines, penalties, cell phones etc.
  • Developing and training all employees to ensure high levels of knowledge in relation to systems, processes, and fleet coordination

· Help promote a company culture that encourages top performance and high morale.

Job Knowledge & Skills:

· A good understanding of the transport/logistics landscape

· 5 years extended management experience within the waste management & transport industry

· A good understanding of the national waste management strategy

· Understanding the norms and standards of waste management principles

· Knowledge of integrated waste management planning

· Able to demonstrate experience in the management of staff and financial management

· Good interpersonal skills and ability to work within a diverse culture of staff

· Effective collaboration and communication skills

· Troubleshooting skills and Excellent problem-solving skills

Qualification:

· Bachelor’s degree in transport Economics/Business/Logistics degree or equivalent

Job Purpose:

To manage the entire order cycle to enhance business development and ensure sustainability and customer satisfaction by directing, optimizing, and coordinating the full order cycle. Providing inspired leadership to the operations team, which involves making important policy and strategic decisions, as well as the development and implementation of operational policies and procedures. You will also be assisting with recruiting and training, when necessary, and help promote a company culture that encourages morale and performance.

· Responsible for providing the scheduled service as per our contractual obligation to our clients to ensure the service level agreements or met.
